If you're as faithful a reader of my blog as I am, you may remember Kenny's birthday last year (and if not, I've made you a handy link). Well...I'm sad to say this year wasn't much better. Actually, it probably counted among his worst birthdays ever. Why, you ask? I don't know about you, but my idea of great birthday fun is not exactly sitting in the dark with my parents. But yeah.
So it's Friday morning. Parents were coming, restaurant reservations were made, promises of purchasing a new cell phone registered, all seemed well. Until about 10am, when Kenny suddenly goes: "it's quiet.....too quiet" Yeah. like he was in a sci-fi channel original movie. Meaning the comforting white noise hum of our modern electronic life had been silenced. We assumed it was just like the last power outage (see February 5th), and that it was just our street, probably caused by the stupid power people, and would soon be over. Either that, or zombies had taken over the world in the night and we were the last ones left alive (with the exception of maverick Skidmore professor Flip Phillips, who had turned the power in Saratoga Springs off to confuse and scatter the zombies to better fight them). But we figured it was probably the first one. That is, until we realized no one in the freakin Tri-city area had power....and we were hearing really strange stratching and wailing noises from our skylight...then the second one started sounding a little too possible. Anyway. His parents show up, take him with them to their hotel (which offers...? board games? certainly not lights). I went over to Rachel and Britton's and we eventually took a trip down to Albany to Olive Garden and bought a bunch of scented candles at Pier 1. All in all, not such a bad night for me, got stuffed on good food, saw a ton of stars, met Britton's boyfriend for the first time. When I got back Kenny had a little seance goin on in his room and we piled on the blankets (you know....no power=no heat....at least we're not old...despite the fact that we went to sleep at like 10pm). Sweet ass birthday if you ask me.
