Ilene, on the Efficiency of our Great Capital

My friend Ilene is working in D.C. for the summer, and she told me this fantastic story, so I thought I share:
"There is a mail chute in our building. But no one bothered to let our office know that it's not working. And for months we've been putting important mail in there. And we JUST found out that the chute was closed and it's part of the elevator shaft. And so for hours this morning, this girl was using this device she contrived with string and tape and a twizzlers pack wrapped in tape, with batteries as a weight, trying to get it to stick to some envelopes. It was like a Seinfeld episode. All these people looking out from their office windows and walking by are like "what the fuck?""

Don't you feel so secure knowing that at least in our capital things are handled so efficiently?
